AlphaEarth Foundations / Google Earth Engine
A planetary-scale platform for Earth science data and analysis that combines a multi-petabyte catalog with high-performance parallel computing.
Google Earth Engine (the core of AlphaEarth Foundations) provides instant access to over 80 petabytes of geospatial data, including the complete Landsat archive and Sentinel-1/2 imagery. It replaces traditional local processing with a cloud-native API (Python and JavaScript) that distributes complex spatial computations across thousands of Google CPUs. Researchers use it to monitor global forest loss, track water resource changes in the Aral Sea, and map urban expansion in real time. By abstracting infrastructure management, it allows users to focus on developing algorithms for land-use classification and climate modeling rather than managing server clusters.
