Chicago Data Portal

The Chicago Data Portal provides public access to over 600 machine-readable datasets, driving transparency and civic innovation since its 2012 launch.

This is Chicago’s central hub for open government data: a free, powerful resource mandated by a 2012 executive order. The portal hosts over 600 datasets, with many updated daily, covering everything from 311 Service Requests (like rodent baiting) to crime statistics dating back to 2001. Users can access data on Current Employee Salaries, Uber/Lyft trips, and building permits. Data is provided in both human-readable formats and via API (Socrata’s SODA), enabling developers, journalists, and residents to create custom applications and perform deep analysis.
