Coscientist is an AI copilot that autonomously designs, plans, and executes complex chemical synthesis experiments via robotic cloud labs.

Coscientist is an AI-driven system, developed at Carnegie Mellon University, demonstrating full autonomy in chemical research. It leverages large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4 to ingest literature, synthesize data, and write code for robotic application programming interfaces (APIs). The system successfully planned and executed Nobel Prize-winning palladium-catalyzed cross couplings, a first for non-organic intelligence (Nature, 2023). This capability accelerates R&D, delivering reliable, replicable results by automating the entire experimental process, from prompt to physical execution.
