Credit Card
A standardized payment interface utilizing 16-digit identifiers and EMV chips to facilitate instant global credit transactions.
Credit cards operate on the ISO 7810 ID-1 physical standard (85.60 by 53.98 mm). Since the 1950 Diners Club launch, the technology has transitioned from manual imprinters to magnetic stripes and encrypted EMV chips. The system connects four key parties: the cardholder, merchant, acquiring bank, and issuing bank. High-speed networks like VisaNet process over 65,000 transaction messages per second to verify funds and prevent fraud. Modern security layers include tokenization and 3-D Secure protocols (like Verified by Visa) to protect the Primary Account Number during the digital handshake.
