Google Cloud Run Gen2
Google Cloud Run Gen2 scales containerized microservices on a full Linux kernel for faster starts and expanded system compatibility.
Gen2 replaces the original gVisor sandbox with a standard Linux environment: this cuts cold start times by up to 50% and enables native Network File System (NFS) support via Filestore. Each instance supports up to 32 GB of RAM and 8 vCPUs (ideal for memory-heavy tasks like machine learning inference or video transcoding with ffmpeg). It simplifies networking by providing direct VPC egress without the need for a connector. Use this environment when your stack requires high-performance disk access or specific system calls that Gen1 restricts.
