Kinect

Kinect is a line of controller-free motion-sensing input devices: It utilizes an RGB camera, depth sensor, and microphone array for real-time skeletal tracking, gesture recognition, and voice commands.

The Kinect sensor, initially launched for the Xbox 360 in November 2010 (codenamed 'Project Natal'), revolutionized gaming by enabling full-body control without a handheld device. Its core technology—a combination of an infrared projector, depth-finding camera, and proprietary software—allows it to map 3D space and track up to six human skeletons simultaneously. The device set a Guinness World Record, selling 8 million units in its first 60 days. While the original Xbox line was discontinued, the technology evolved into the Azure Kinect Developer Kit (DK), which now leverages advanced AI sensors for enterprise applications in healthcare, manufacturing, and mixed reality.
