ONDC
Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC): India's DPIIT-backed, open-protocol network unbundling e-commerce to democratize digital retail.
ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) is a state-owned technology initiative: it moves India's digital commerce from a platform-centric model to an open, decentralized network. Launched by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the system leverages the open-source Beckn protocol to enable true interoperability. This means buyers and sellers transact regardless of their specific application (think UPI for payments). The core goal is population-scale inclusion: connecting over 7.64 lakh sellers and service providers, reducing high margin costs, and fostering a level playing field for MSMEs and local businesses across 12 product categories.
