Opus
The industry-standard royalty-free audio codec for high-fidelity speech and music transmission.
Opus (RFC 6716) is the definitive standard for interactive audio. It merges two technologies: Skype's SILK (speech) and Xiph.Org's CELT (music). It handles bitrates from 6 kb/s to 510 kb/s while maintaining ultra-low latency (5ms to 26.5ms). This efficiency makes it the default choice for Discord, WhatsApp, and YouTube. It scales across sampling rates (8 kHz to 48 kHz) and adapts bitrates in real time. It outperforms legacy formats like MP3 and Vorbis in any modern streaming application.
