Sentinel-2
Sentinel-2 is the Copernicus twin-satellite mission delivering high-resolution, 13-band multispectral imagery for land and coastal monitoring, with a 5-day global revisit time.
This is a critical asset: Sentinel-2 is the European Copernicus program's land monitoring mission. It operates a constellation of twin satellites (Sentinel-2A and 2B, soon 2C) in a sun-synchronous orbit, phased 180° apart for optimal coverage. The onboard Multi-Spectral Instrument (MSI) captures data across 13 spectral bands, providing high spatial resolution with four bands at 10 meters. This configuration ensures a rapid 5-day revisit time at the equator, which is essential for tracking dynamic changes. The free and open data supports key operational services: precision agriculture, forest and land-use mapping, and rapid disaster management for events like floods and wildfires.
