SimpleITK

SimpleITK is a simplified, open-source programming interface to the Insight Toolkit (ITK) for medical image analysis.

SimpleITK provides a high-level, procedural interface to the powerful ITK library: this makes complex image analysis accessible to domain scientists. It supports extensive language bindings (Python, R, Java, C#, etc.) for rapid prototyping and reproducible workflows. The toolkit includes over 280 image analysis filters, manages 15+ file formats, and unifies ITK's intensity-based registration framework. Originally developed with funding from the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), SimpleITK is a core tool for segmentation and registration tasks across biomedical imaging (CT, MR, PET) and various non-biomedical applications.
