User prompt
A user prompt is the dynamic, task-specific instruction (the 'what') an end-user provides to an AI model to elicit a desired, immediate response.
User prompts are the critical input for Large Language Models (LLMs): they bridge human intent and machine execution. Unlike the static system prompt (the 'how'), the user prompt is a dynamic query, like 'Generate five SEO keywords for a new Italian restaurant in NYC.' Effective prompts must be clear, specific, and provide sufficient context or examples (few-shot prompting) to steer the AI's output. The quality of this initial instruction directly determines the relevance and precision of the AI-generated content, making prompt engineering a core skill for maximizing model performance across all applications.
