Anti-Gravity
A theoretical propulsion concept: generating a repulsive field to nullify or reverse gravitational attraction, enabling propellant-less flight and reduced mass effects.
Anti-Gravity is the conceptual technology for generating a repulsive force to nullify or reverse the attractive force of gravity. Current General Relativity models indicate this is impossible: mass-energy is always positive and attractive (Source 1.1). Despite this physical barrier, research into 'gravity modification' and propellant-less drives continues. NASA's Breakthrough Propulsion Physics Program (BPP) investigated these concepts from 1996โ2002, ultimately listing true anti-gravity approaches as 'non-viable' (Source 1.1). Noteworthy claims include Russian physicist Evgeny Podkletnov's 1992 experiment using a levitating superconducting disc to shield gravity, though this has not been independently replicated (Source 1.2). The focus has since shifted toward manipulating spacetime geometry (e.g., Alcubierre drive) or developing reactionless drives (e.g., Charles Buhler's electrostatic designs) (Source 1.7, 1.9).
