Autonomous Vehicle
Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) are AI-driven systems using sensor fusion (LiDAR, radar, cameras) to execute the Dynamic Driving Task (DDT), classified by the SAE J3016 standard from Level 0 to Level 5.
Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) are complex systems employing a sensor suite (LiDAR, radar, cameras) and sophisticated AI to execute the Dynamic Driving Task (DDT): steering, braking, and navigation. The industry standard is the SAE J3016 classification, defining six levels of automation: Level 0 (No Automation) through Level 5 (Full Automation). Current commercial deployments, such as Waymo and Cruise robotaxis, operate at Level 4 (High Automation) within specific operational design domains (ODDs). This technology fundamentally shifts driver responsibility to the Automated Driving System (ADS), targeting a significant reduction in the 94% of crashes currently attributed to human error.
