Image Similarity is a computer vision technique that quantifies visual resemblance between two or more images, converting them into feature vectors (embeddings) for rapid search and comparison.
This technology is a core component of modern visual AI, moving beyond simple pixel matching. It uses deep learning models (e.g., CNNs) to extract high-dimensional feature vectors (embeddings) from an image; these vectors are then stored in a vector database. The system calculates similarity using metrics like Cosine Similarity or Euclidean Distance, enabling sub-second search across datasets of 100+ million images. Key applications include e-commerce product recommendation (visual search), brand protection (identifying unauthorized logo use), and content moderation (duplicate image detection) across large-scale platforms.
