Proxy Server

A proxy server acts as an intermediary gateway, managing client requests to the internet and masking the user's true IP address for security and privacy.

A proxy server is a critical network component: it functions as a middleman, accepting client requests (e.g., from an internal network) and forwarding them to a destination server on its own behalf. This process successfully masks the client's original IP address, providing a crucial layer of anonymity and defense. Organizations leverage this technology to implement strict content filtering, blocking access to specific sites or malicious traffic (like a firewall). Furthermore, the proxy can cache frequently requested data, significantly improving network performance and reducing bandwidth usage: a 100MB file requested by 50 users is only fetched once from the external web server.
